Beverly Hills Bike Route Pilot Meeting #2 Upcoming

Bike routes finally on the city’s agenda!

Here’s a heads-up if you weren’t able to make the first Beverly Hills Bike Route Pilot program public outreach meeting: You have another chance this Wednesday, April 25th at 7pm at the Public Works building, 345 Foothill Blvd. in Beverly Hills. This is the first step toward a route network as described in our bicycle Master plan (1977). Get up to speed on the process to date as we have previously described it and be sure to consult the routes map and feasibility study. Or get the overview from the city’s PowerPoint presentation. If you can’t attend, please, please consider commenting to Transportation on the proposal before it goes to Traffic & Parking on May 9th.

If you are able to attend, you will hear from the city about the steps it is taking to provide bike racks. You’ll hear from the consultant about the feasibility study conducted on the four routes (plus Burton Way as a late addition). And you’ll have an opportunity to address the three members of the Bike Plan Update Committee – the same three that site on the Traffic & Parking Commission which will send recommendations to Council.

This is a modest proposal that will only begin to get us where we need to be. But it is a start. We welcome your contribution in the flesh or by letter. After all, we won’t see the kind of improvements that keep us safe unless we demand them.

Better Bike has pressed the city for improvements to our streets, and to our intersections, for increased cyclist safety. And frankly we’ve not always been optimistic about the city’s commitment. But this is what we have, so let’s make it as good as it can be! Read our meeting #1 recap and our correspondence to Council about Santa Monica Boulevard. Then be prepared to roll up your sleeves on Wednesday, April 25th at 7pm at the Public Works building, 345 Foothill Blvd. in Beverly Hills.
