From the UK comes these sobering statistics: road cyclist deaths are up 12% country-wide, with a staggering increase of 60% in London alone. And women make up the majority of UK deaths. London is plagued with heavy truck traffic, and half the deaths involved them. But why the disproportionate impact on women? One theory is that they may be less intrepid or experienced and so hug the curb – one of the most dangerous places fora cyclist to be. Word to the wise in Los Angeles: take the lane. It’s usually too narrow to share, and it’s yours. It may save your life.
