The Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition is on the job! This past week, their City of Lights program facilitated installation of bike racks in the very under-served Pico Union neighborhood of Los Angeles. (Read more about the racks effort or go right to the LACBC blog.) The program advocates for cyclists of color and the non-English speaking cycling communities.
Alexis Lantz, the policy director, was recently profiled by Streetsblog Los Angeles. In an interview she talks about the LACBC mission, as well as cycling in the Los Angeles area from a non-native’s perspective.
Next week LACBC conducts counts at strategic locations where sharrows have been installed (a Better Bike Beverly Hills representative will volunteer) and the organization is undertaking regional organizing and capacity-building efforts too. It’s a great time to get involved with a great organization!
Better Bike Beverly Hills is ramping up its own capacity-building effort, and we look forward to partnering with the LACBC on our first joint effort: a survey ride of Santa Monica Boulevard. Join us on Sunday, November 14th, for a leisurely ride around the north side of the Golden Triangle as we talk about the coming Santa Monica Boulevard improvements, as well as put a sharp eye to current conditions on the corridor.
Feel free to suggest your own ideas about what our ride should touch on. We look forward to hearing form you. And thanks to LACBC for partnering with our upstart organization to get our first ride off the ground!
