Following on the success of last year’s Earth Day, Better Bike will again have a booth at this year’s event at the Farmers Market on Sunday, April 15th. Drop by the many retailers and public service booths that make this day an environmentalist’s treat. Come for Crown Disposal’s booth and stay for the bike chat!
Speaking of chat, if you are interested in working the booth for an hour or two to highlight the city’s bike route Pilot project and talk about Santa Monica Boulevard reconstruction, we will be happy to have you behind the table. One of our objectives in participating with Earth Day is that we can promote the city’s bike route planning meetings and generally get the word out about how nice it would be to cycle safe streets in Beverly Hills. If you can staff the booth, we’ll hang a nametag around your neck and call you official.
We’ll have flyers for the LACBC and upcoming events on the table. We’ll be promoting LACBC membership (we are a local affiliate). And we’re taking names for future Better Bike outreach and events. Last year we netted four score of people interested in better plans and safer roads for Beverly Hills. With new momentum for bike planning these days, we hope to do even better this year.
But the best reason to visit the Farmers Market on Earth Day is for the opportunity to dust off those wheels, saddle up, and (literally) road test these four Pilot candidate routes. They may be the beginning of a future bike network, so have a feel of Carmelita, Charleville, Beverly, and Crescent (see the map at right) and prepare your comments for the Traffic & Parking Commission when they receive public feedback on May 9th.
Sunday is also CicLAVia, which makes our Earth Day Farmers Market a great jump-off point for a local ride to the Downtown event. Last year, we had rides from Santa Monica and West LA reconnoiter at our Farmers Market before heading east. If you are passing through, drop by the booth and say hello!
